I used Mavericks/Yosemite on my MSI P67A-GD55(B3) for two years, and apart from no sleep/wake, it was an awesome machine (using i5-2500/i7-2600k CPUs). Also, some Radeon cards have wake-issues with El Capitan. and click on the link within that sentence it takes you to the App Store : Open the link in the dialogue box that opens. I recommend Yosemite 10.10.5, as audio/usb3 will be so much easier to get working. If your Mac doesn't support Sierra, or you're using Snow Leopard and would like to upgrade to Sierra, you can get El Capitan from the App Store. You may want to test that the boot USB device gets to the installer, and you can see all drives in Disk Utility before pulling the trigger. Have a full Time Machine backup handy in case you may want to reinstall iMovieHD or iPhoto (which are NOT kept in the update, as far as I can recall) - also a good idea to have a backup in case something goes horribly wrong. (I updated a real MacBook Pro recently from 10.6.8 to Yosemite 10.10.5, and only TWO APPS and NO KEXTS were incompatible) Luckily the installer knows what these are.
Remember, you are jumping 5 versions of the operating system here, expect some incompatible apps/kexts. Download the Installer App from App Store, use UniBeast to create USB boot/install stick, and install OVER your previous partition WITHOUT FORMATTING, it should keep most all settings/apps, and automatically disable incompatible ones.
Do not try a System Update from the menu/App Store, it will most likely kill your system (if it launches the installer, quit it immediately). I think you need latest update to Snow Leopard to be able to correctly download installer app from App Store.
